A Canadian father went out of his way to help his son feel more confident.
In fact, Derek Pru Sr. of Alberta, Canada, spent 30 hours getting a replica of his son’s birthmark tattoo, which covered a significant portion of his chest.
Pru told CBC News that he decided to get a tattoo when he saw his son, Derek Pru Jr., 8, not going swimming without a shirt.
“I know he’s self-conscious about this,” Pru said. “I saw how he was reacting, and that made me want to do it so he wouldn’t be the only one.”

Pru got her tattoo done at the Juicy Quill Studios in Stony Plain, Alberta. The owner, Tony Gibbert, told CBC he was happy that Derek helped encourage Prou.
“I think it’s amazing to be able to give your son that much comfort,” Gibbert said. “More than your name, or something you saw, you really, like, really change the way you think about yourself.”

However, the process did not run in the park.
In total, the tattoo took about 30 hours over a period of six to eight weeks.
“He’s going through the ringer sitting for her,” Gibbert said. “It’s very painful.”

Pru told the news outlet that he did not really expect it to take so long.
“It felt good to do that,” Pru said. “It simply came to our notice then. I thought it would be like a few hours. ”
He added, “I’m kind of glad I didn’t know how long it would take.”
