CVS Health said Monday it plans to immediately recruit 15,000 employees in preparation for the Covid-19 and the expected increase in flu cases this fall and winter.

More than 10,000 of them will be full-time and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians who can dispense drugs and run Covid-19 tests.

Public health officials have warned that the Kovid-19 case may be. Will increase in the coming months, as more Americans spend time indoors during cold weather. Cases are already on the rise. The average daily new cases of coronavirus increased by at least 5% on a weekly basis in 39 states on Thursday, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. U.S. on Thursday. More than 63,300 new cases have been reported in, with a seven-day average of daily new cases increasing by more than 13% compared to the previous week.

Large staff can also help CVS prepare for the second major phase of the epidemic: the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine once available. Federal authorities will need to authorize companies, including CVS, for a pharmacy technician to administer the vaccine under the supervision of an immunization-certified pharmacist.

CVSA has advocated change, saying pharmacy technicians could help speed up the widespread distribution of the vaccine.

The health-care company has expanded its staff and services during the epidemic. It has more than 4,000 Covid-19 drive-through test sites and about 5 million tests. In March, the company announced plans to hire 50,000 jobs for delivery from delivery drivers to store associates to increase demand for over-the-counter drugs, prescription early prescriptions and more at its nearly 10,000 pharmacies in the U.S.

Since then, CVSA has hired about 76,000 full-time, part-time and temporary employees, company spokesman Joe Goode said. It has about 300,000 employees.

With the recruitment of a pharmacy technician in an effort to hire the latest, CVS is looking for pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and distribution center staff. The company said many of the new spaces are temporary, but could be permanent.

Pharmacy technicians have less training and are paid less than pharmacists. They must have a high school diploma or GED and sometimes a license compared to a pharmacist, who must have years of undergraduate training.

The epidemic has increased demand for flu shots, a tool that public health officials are advising Americans to keep healthy and reduce the confusion between Covid-19 and similar flu symptoms.

CVS expects 18 million flu shots to be administered this year – up from 11 million last year, Gode said.
