CVS Health is opening 16 additional COVID-19 testing sites in Illinois, including 1305 Randall Road in Crystal Lake and 3900 W. Elm St. in McHenry, the company announced in a press release.

According to the statement, self-injection tests will be available at both locations beginning Friday for people who meet CDC criteria. Patients must be at least 18 years old and register in advance on CVS.com to schedule an appointment.

Patients will be required to stay in their cars and will be directed to the driving window or other location in the parking lot, where they will be given a test kit and instructions. A member of the CVS pharmacy team will observe the automatic removal process to ensure that it is successful.

The tests will be sent to an independent third-party laboratory for processing, and the results will be available in approximately three days, according to the statement. The tests will not be conducted within retail stores, and CVS Pharmacy, HealthHUB and MinuteClinic will continue to provide services to clients and patients.

“One of our greatest strengths as a company is our local presence in communities across the country, allowing us to uniquely expand people’s access to safe and effective COVID-19 testing options and respond to the need for increased testing capacity, “said Larry J Merlo, President and CEO, CVS Health. “We remain grateful for the commitment of our front-line colleagues who make these test sites possible and whose dedication has enabled us to keep our stores open for customers seeking supplies and patients who need care.”

CVS now has 73 test drive sites throughout Illinois. You can find a complete list of sites at cvshealth.com/covid-19/testing-locations.
