Curiosity rover finds evidence of ancient megafloods on Mars

They believe the flooding was caused by a massive meteorite impact that generated enough heat to melt large amounts of ice on the planet. The occasion emitted carbon dioxide and methane, which together with water vapor create a hot and humid atmosphere for a short time. This caused torrential rains to fall all over the earth and water (with silt) which mounted. The gale crater overflowed. So, what exactly does this mean?

As you probably know, the presence of water can mean life. That’s why NASA and other space agencies are trying to find evidence of water on other space objects in our solar system. “The planet had the conditions necessary to support the presence of liquid water on the surface – and on Earth, where there is water, there is life,” explains Ferron. After landing on the surface of Mars in February 2021, the task of finding evidence of ancient life on our planet’s neighbor now belongs to the Perseverance Rover.
