Cuomo drops probe into nursing home coronavirus debacle

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday dismissed the idea of an independent probe into the coronavirus tears by nursing homes in New York – while reiterating that criticism of his administration’s response is purely partisan.

State police on both sides of the aisle have called for an investigation into the circumstances that led to at least 6,400 COVID-linked deaths in the facilities, including what role a March 25 mandate from Cuomo’s Department of Health prevented coronavirus homes -positive patients to turn away may have played.

“No, I would not do any research,” Cuomo told reporters on Monday.

Despite the bilingual support for a probe into Albany, the Democratic governor insisted that the talks for accountability were politically motivated.

“I think you have to blindly think it’s not political,” he said. “Just look where it comes from and look at the sources and look at their political affiliation and … look at which publications are increasing it and which media networks are increasing [it]. It’s kind of incredible. ”

When a reporter calls the point that an independent probe could be just that – independent – Cuomo swept the idea down as impossible.

“There is no such thing as one that is trusted by all Democrats and Republicans,” he said. “That person does not exist.”

The Cuomo administration was fired last month in a single inquiry into the case – performed by the DOH.

“The health review department was then audited by credible experts in the sector, right?” Cuomo said Monday. ‘Well, people do not think they are independent experts. Yes, I know, because no one will ever agree on who an independent expert is.

‘Everyone has their own expert, right? Everyone has their own opinion. ”
