This ended more or less after a few innings. Jake Cave punched Reynaldo López in the first inning. They added 5 more runs in the 2nd, led by Nelson Cruz’s 3-run double. Lots of support for Kenta Maeda.
Maeda was 5 innings, striking out 6, the only spot being a 2-run homer by Luis Robert. Maeda featured a fastball that peaked at 94 MPH, and mixed a healthy dose of breakout balls to keep the White Sox guessing. Probably another inning could have gone, but with the heat and this being his first outing (and also a big one), the bullpen finished the remaining 4 innings.
Cruz hit a solo shot to the left in the 4th, and in the 8th he hit one for a 3-run homer to add to the loss.
Marwin González joined the bomb parade in the ninth, with a single HR to the right.
Notes:
- White Sox starter Reynaldo López left the game with an apparent injury in the second inning with 2 outs. Gio González replaced him.
-
Eloy Jiménez left the game after hitting the wall at Jake Cave’s grand slam.
- Robert’s homer in the fifth is the first of his career. He is someone the Twins will probably have to worry about for a long time.
