Cubs Win, El Mago Double Playing, Jeffress Closing, Alzole Adding and other Cubs bits

One guy decided to take the Little Boy to Chicago this weekend. I know there isn’t a ton we can do, but for obvious reasons, it’s been a minute since I was able to go, and I think we can still go out, get some great food. The sound of a doubleheader in the Wrigley area.

Last Cubs win and Cardinals loss came to Central last night, with both the Brewers and Cardinals now 4.5 behind the Cubs. games are games, although the Brewers have played eight more games than the Cardinals. So strange, and it’s a reminder of how challenging it is for the Cardinals to really get back into the fray. If they don’t win at least * three in the next four games against the Cubs, they could probably kiss their hopes of winning a Central Goodbye.

Meanwhile, the Cubs have a second-best record in the National League (.605, tied with the Braves).

Last night’s double-play to lift last night’s win was fun for Javi Base, who took a hop on another base – hey, sometimes shifts are great too! – and used his bare hands to touch the second part to save a fraction of a second before the first wound:

Els think we’ve seen a lot of “El Mago” moments this year, and this is such a huge amount of fun watching the Cubs team. Glad to see that play, and the smile that followed.

દરમિયાન In the meantime, it was Jeremy Jeffres who got another chance to save in a well-rested bullpen. Rowan Wick was ranked 8th and Jeffres was ranked 9th. I think you want to see it move forward in places where it is clear that “the kid has a little lead, covers the final two innings” situations. Sure, you’d prefer to have Craig Kimbrelle in the 9th to give Jeffreys more leeway to freeze in the big spot that comes before the 9th, but it’s impossible to trust Kimbrelle at the moment. He will have to cover whatever innings are available for now, he will have to watch constantly for many of them in a row, and he will probably have to cover the 9th. Then That’s when Jeffres is down for a day.

Starts to see something in today’s Edbert Alzole? While working at South Band this year, he clearly developed a new pitch:

• No, it’s not a cutter like many of its brethren, it’s two seamers / sinkers that come at the same speed as its four seamers (—- m miles), but it has arm-side runs. If he can still spin a quality curb ball lane and blend into the change (which comes and goes for him), he’s a really nice pitch.

• Alzol starts a game today, with two games set as a bullpen game, but it will probably depend a bit on how the game goes. If Alzol can give the Cubs five strong innings, then you have a lot more flexibility in what you want to do with game two. On a temporary basis, I expect Colin Ren to be reserved to start game two.

Pedro Strop will not be ready to join the Cubs this weekend as he moves to the South Bend, and it would be an open question if he could come later this year. His signatures are Cody Allen and A.J. Here is how Ramos (other right reclamation reliever rituals) came to be, and how David Ross described his decision to let go (cubes.com): “His stuff wasn’t quite ready in his eyes,” Ross said. I hear feedback from the group and what they are seeing and what they are seeing. And they feel they are not ready to contribute to the big club here. So, I believe in that group and in their decision making. “We like Pedro. Is, but will be evaluated equally.
