Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein spoke today about Jose Quintana’s injury. That was a nuisance.
However, Epstein got into a variety of other topics worth sharing here.
Cubs players will undergo COVID-19 testing this week, as will players from all over baseball. And while teams are prohibited from announcing positive tests, MLB can reveal and add the aggregate, probably tomorrow:
Theo said the league would likely announce on Friday how many positive tests during admission. As for the Cubs, she said there was no “significant change” from the previous update in which 2 staff members tested positive (not players).

As we’ve seen with other teams (probably), if the Cubs test positive, they’ll be placed on the COVID-19 Special Injured List … we just won’t know. Instead, they will be publicly placed in the 10-day IL with no injury noted. So it’s weird.
As for the staff update, I consider that comment to mean that no additional staff member (unlike the players) has tested positive this week.
Speaking of testing, this seems like a good idea for many reasons:
The Cubs have opened the tests to the families of the players.

At summer camp, the Cubs are doing their best to make the most of Wrigley Field facilities for safety:
Theo says the Cubs are basically moving everything they can outdoors, like weight rooms, to set up Wrigley for workouts.

The organization is making progress with something Epstein discussed last month:
Last month, Theo Epstein said he hoped to form a diversity committee within the Cubs to examine the organization and what it can do to improve and take action. He said the group was formed today and has an opportunity to have “real authority” to help the Cubs make a difference.
