Crowds in France stormed the police station with fireworks and metal bars


A mob armed with metal stripes and firecrackers stormed a police station in the Paris suburb on Saturday night, officials said.

According to Reuters, a group of about 40 people tried to attack the Champigni-sur-Maran station, about nine miles southeast of central Paris.

Police posted a video showing fireworks exploding in the direction of the station. Officials said the attackers failed to gain access but managed to inflict heavy damage to the station and nearby cars.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the attack.

The motive for the attack is unclear, but it is the third such attack in two years.

Champignon Mayor Laurent Gene said local residents blamed police for the attack, which occurred after a scooter accident.
