Crimson Tide notes and leaks from T-Town

A lot of good happens with Alabama football early in fall camp

Earlier in the week, both Alabama football coordinators pointed out that the Crimson Tide was ahead, rather than backward, no spring practice. The ‘mini-camp’ of the summer preceding the current fall camp was a period in which coaches could learn, check concepts and install new ones. Most of the conversations about the summer activity focused on how skilled players looked. By all accounts, they looked good. Less obvious, more detailed work was also done.

As always, Alabama’s football rumors spread fast. Some of the most notable rumors are impressive opt-outs from Partick Surtain II and Jaylen Waddle. This week, both players declared that they never seriously considered not playing in the 2020 season. Claims have been made that the withdrawal of Keilan Robinson will be either-out or transferred. There have been no official words about Robinson.

Bama Insider reported Waddles’ thoughts on his increased role for the 2020 season.

  • “They (the coaches) are looking for me to get into a bigger role, and I’m just excited.”
  • (On Mac Jones) “I think chemistry just keeps getting better with time … minicamp, and this camp we have now, we’ve got a lot of reps.”
  • ‘I think he (Mac) took on a more personal role. He is more confident. He really leads the team, you know. He came in last year last year, so it was more a process that made him better and more self-aware with the crime. Now he looks really, really good. ”

Last season with Waddle behind Jeudy, Ruggs and Smitty, Jaylen had limited opportunities to make contact with Jones. Fan Bama Insider, in Mac’s four games,

he raised Waddle only 11 times. However, 10 of those went for receptions, which resulted in a combination of 215 yards and four scores. Waddle’s 90.9 catch-to-goal percentage from Jones was the highest the quarterback had with any receiver

The most feel-good story of fall camp has been the rise of Ben Davis. The former 5-Star recruiter leads the outside linebackers, along with Chris Allen. Davis should be credited for never complaining about his most special teams role. Coming up with Tuscaloosa, the son of career leader Alabama football in approach – and not deserving of a starting role, must have been difficult for Ben.

Davis has enormous talent behind him at linebacker outside. One is Will Anderson who is too good to be taken off the field. Davis who deserves a start button while also running with Anderson will make many Crimson Tide fans proud.

One non-football treat for Tide fans. The word from basketball in Alabama is that Herbert Jones is jumping on the bandwagon. That was the only part of Herb’s game that he missed.
