Crew killed in U.S. Navy plane crash in Alabama


The turboprop plane crashed in Foley, about 30 miles by air from the mobile, the CMDR said. Zach Herald, a public affairs officer with the Natch Air Force.

Harel said the name of the deceased would be revealed after notifying relatives. The aircraft is usually occupied by a student pilot and instructor.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the two pilots who lost their lives in a plane crash in Alabama today,” the head of the Naval Air Training Office said on Twitter. “We have great sympathy for our family and friends at this difficult time. Shipmates rest in peace. We have the watch.”

The Navy has no information on civilian casualties, Harel said.

A home caught fire after the plane crashed but Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Fees also said no one was injured on the ground.

The T-6B Texan II is a tandem-seat, turboprop aircraft used primarily to train pilots for the Navy and Marine Corps, according to the Navy.

There are two naval aviation training centers, Naval Air Station White Field, located 24 miles northeast of Pensacola, Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, 245 T-6B. Six additional T-6B aircraft have been housed at the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School at the Naval Air Station Patentsant River in Maryland.

Its web page says the NAS whitening field is “where the future of naval aviation begins.” About 1,200 new pilots undergo training each year.

The airfield is about 45 miles from the crash site.

CNN reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration, which had no further comment.
