Cowboys will not pursue Earl Thomas?

The Cowboys are connected Earl Thomas for years, but there is now “nothing” on this front, says a source Mike Florio of PFT. Thomas is obviously new to his release from the Ravens.

The Cowboys tried to oust Thomas from the Seahawks two years ago when he was embroiled in a contractual dispute with the team. Thomas, meanwhile, added fuel to the fire by expressing his love for the Cowboys several times. The multiple-time Pro Bowler bowed to the Dallas interbank, cut short plans to catch the Cowboys on TV, and leaked further word of his interest in the press via backchannels.

In the end, those trade talks were not fruitful. Last year, the Cowboys stood pat when Thomas made the rounds in free agency, but that probably had more to do with his asking price than anything else.

Historically, the Cowboys have been willing to take chances on players with red flags, but Thomas’ rocky year with Baltimore may have lost interest. It is also possible that the Cowboys may end up being comfortable with their safety situation after adding Ha Ha Clinton-Dix earlier in the offseason.

If Thomas is looking for his next chance, he will likely fight his reps with the Ravens. The Ravens’ official announcement of the release called for “personal behavior that has negatively affected the team. As Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (Twitter link) notes, that words indicate that the Ravens will come after Thomas for money.
