A rusher for big time goes to Big D.
The Dallas Cowboys signed former Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network and Jane Slater reported Wednesday night.
Griffen is a four-time Pro Bowler who has spent the last 10 years with the Vikings and there was a chance he came back or went to the Seahawks because the teams “went back and forth”, but the Cowboys emerged from below the radar and have added an enormous amount of talent, Rapoport added.
At the very least, Griffen is transforming the Cowboys’ defensive front into an impressive attack, as he intends to join Demarcus Lawrence, Gerald McCoy, Tyrone Crawford and Aldon Smith. While there will of course remain many questions about how the new additions like Griffen, Smith and McCoy blend into a unit led by Lawrence, the talent and production from the past is impressive. For the past four seasons, Griffen has spectacularly complimented Danielle Hunter in Minnesota, so he not only joins the Cowboys on a track record of stellar play, but with good cooperation with another great pass rusher.
While Griffen continues from the Vikings despite a 2019 Pro Prol campaign in which he tackles eight sacks and 11 for a loss, there is likely to be some notoriety, as his debut season in Dallas will also be the first year for Mike McCarthy, who sets out for his opening campaign with the Cowboys after seeing his days with the Packers and Griffen twice a year.
