Here are updates on cases of coronavirus in Brevard, according to the Florida Department of Health, effective August 16, 2020.
Brevard registered four new deaths and 33 new COVID-19 cases, according to data from the Florida Department of Health on Sunday.
In total, Brevard’s count was 6,511 (6,490 residents and 21 non-residents affected). So far, the province has lost 178 people to the virus with 64 of those deaths reported this month (see case snapshot below). Victims ranged in age from 40 to 103. At least 109 of the dead were associated with long-term care facilities such as nursing homes.
It is important to note that the exact dates of these deaths have not been made public by the Department of Health; it is unlikely that these people died in a period of 16 days. Often there is a gap between the person’s death and when it is reported by the Florida Department of Health. Also, a “case” is a person who tests positive for the first time, according to FDOH.
