COVID-19 survivor urges others to take pandemic seriously

KATY – Most people who are now infected with COVID-19 are young, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. It issued a warning on Friday to those who contribute to the spread of the virus.

“Ultimately, you will infect someone who is vulnerable. That could be the grandmother, the grandfather, the uncle of someone who is on chemotherapy, aunt, who is on radiation or chemotherapy, or a child who has leukemia, “said Fauci.

Amanda Lipscomb is in a vulnerable population category. She is a survivor of breast cancer, and her chemotherapy and prolonged medications left her immunocompromised. This condition has made fighting coronavirus earlier this year much more risky.

“I was very lucky,” said Lipscomb. “I had to stay home because my mother had an old oxygen machine that I could use. If I didn’t have that, I definitely would have been in the hospital. “

The 31-year-old woman said that if you personally do not know anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, you now know her.

“It is very real,” Lipscomb said. “It doesn’t feel good; it’s very scary. ”

According to Lipscomb, he has since recovered from the virus, but has not left his home much since early March.

“I know what it is like,” Lipscomb said. “I don’t want to do it again, it’s not fun.”

Lipscomb said he knows it is difficult to stay away from family and friends, and that the masks are not the most comfortable, but added that it is for a larger purpose.

“It is safer than regretting and it is a problem of humanity, not a political problem,” Lipscomb said. “It is humanity.”
