Press Release from Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Eighty-eight additional cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing the total number of county residents tested positive for the virus to 1,102. There are also reports of five new hospital admissions since Friday.
Daily, weekly and monthly datasets have been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. Some highlights include:
- The county has seen a 21% increase in cases since last week.
- The 20-29 age group represents the largest percentage of domestic cases at 27.6%. The 30.39 age group is the next highest at 20.3%. About 64% of local cases are 39 or less.
- The case doubling time is 31 days. Since the county confirmed its first case on Feb. 20, it has taken 291 days to reach 1,102 cases. At the current rate of infection, it would take 31 days to add an additional 1,102 cases.
Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer Dr. “We’ve all heard of exponential growth, and we’re having a dangerous flirtation with it and could be there,” Josh Anis said. Like the freight train, the covid transmission has also increased at a very fast pace and it will take weeks to slow down with the full impact on hospitals yet to be seen. “Now is the time to act,” he said. “Do your part. You know someone whose life depends on it.”
