The Illinois Department of Public Health reported COVID-19-related deaths in Effingham County and Cumberland County on Thursday.
In both cases, the deaths were those of women in their 80s.
The two deaths were among the 25 COVID-related deaths reported in Illinois by IDPH on Thursday, along with 1,257 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide.
The death in Effingham County is the second COVID-19 related death attributed to the county. Death in Cumberland County is the first in that county.
Regarding the number of positive cases, the Shelby County Health Department announced a COVID-19 positive case number 25 on Thursday. The 18-year-old woman is employed in a long-term care facility in an adjoining county and was examined as part of a screening process at the center due to possible exposure.
The positive case numbers by county since records have been kept: Effingham – 36, Fayette – 30, Shelby – 25, Coles – 212, Cumberland – 31, Jasper – 48, Clay – 8
As of 2pm Thursday, laboratories in Illinois reported 43,006 samples in a 24-hour period.
The percentage of positive tests of all the tests carried out in the last seven days is 3.1%.
