COVID-19 patients in ICU highest in early June, ventilator record high


DES MOINS, Iowa (KCRG) – Hospital admissions were high on Saturday due to a novel coronavirus illness, with thousands more cases and additional deaths reported, according to figures provided by state officials.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Iowa Department of Public Health said 4,249 additional cases of COVD-19 had been added to the state’s total since Friday morning, up from 148,391 now. Of these, 100,346 are thought to be healthy.

The state has reported 14 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number in Iowa since the epidemic began is 1,829.

901 people have been hospitalized due to Covid-19, a net drop of 11 since Friday’s report. A record 194 of them are in intensive care units, a net increase of six. Of these, 72 patients were required to use a ventilator, a net increase of five. The number of patients on the ventilator is the highest since June 2 due to this disease. Iowa hospitals admitted 165 new patients in the last 24 hours, with a new record and a steady rate over the past few days.
