COVID-19 kills two more locals in rural areas due to case spikes


Two more locals have died in COVID-19 as villagers and surrounding communities saw a significant increase in new cases of the deadly virus on Saturday.

According to a report released by the Florida Department, one of the dead was an 84-year-old Marian County man who tested positive on Nov. 3 and another was a 94-year-old Lake County woman who tested positive on Nov. 16. Health.

Fifty-six new COVID-19 cases were reported in and around The Villages on Saturday. These include:

  • Villages (Summer, Lake and Marion Counties) 21 up in 995 total;
  • Above Bellevue 11 in 456 total;
  • 10 out of 1,614 in Lisburg total;
  • Summerfield seven up in 506 total;
  • Ox Xford advanced three in 156;
  • Lady Lake three up in total 439; And
  • One for Wildwood Total 488.

Sumter County now has 3,279 cases reported – an increase of 31 from Friday to Saturday – with 1,842 men, 1,400 women, 19 non-residents and 18 people listed as strangers. A total of 226 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 22 correctional facilities. Hospitals in the area have treated 92 deaths and 312 people there.

An increase of 20 in 243 hours – the villages speed up Summer County with 933 cases. In addition to those mentioned above in Oxford and Wildwood, others have been identified in Coleman (131), Bushnell (1371, 16 in), which has 106 inmates and 50 staff members at the Summer Correctional Institution), Webster (119), Lake Panasovsky ( 93)), Center Hill (64), Sumterville (59) and Lady Lake part of the county (52). Coleman’s federal prison also has 115 cases involving seven inmates and 108 members of staff.

Maration County

  • Case: An increase of 12,341 – 121
  • Men: 5,101
  • Women: 7,196
  • Resident: 34
  • People listed as strangers: 10
  • Cases in long-term care facilities: 1,184
  • Cases in Correctional Facilities: 2,260
  • Death: 374
  • Hospitalization: 1,149
  • Cities with the most cases: Oklahoma (9,217), Summerfield (506), Dunnelon (459), Bellevue (456) and Citra (210). 10 cases have been reported in the villages. A total of 1,429 cases were reported between inmates (1,318) and staff members (111) at the Lowell Correctional Institution and the Marion Correctional Institution.

All told, there were 931,827 reported cases in Florida – an increase of 8,409 from Friday to Saturday. Of these, 918,240 are residents. A total of 54,904 cases were reported in long-term care centers and 25,417 cases in correctional facilities. Across the state, 18,152 people have died and 53,266 have been hospitalized.
