Covid-19 hospital admissions and deaths are declining

The number of people hospitalized in COVID-19 in Los Angeles County has dropped below 1,000 for the first time in more than three months.

At 979, COVID-19 hospitalization is at its lowest level since Nov. 23.

The death toll, reported Saturday by the County Department of Public Health, is also significantly lower than the daily figures for early winter.

The statistics paint a bright picture for the state’s most populous country, a hot spot of coronavirus infection and death.

Meanwhile, 2 million COVID-19 vaccines have been given to targeted communities across the state, allowing public health officials to waive the sanctions imposed after the winter surge in cases and casualties.

Of Los Angeles and Orange California’s four-tier reopening plans, the most restricted tier is among the 13 counties exiting Purple.

Starting Monday, LA County will allow the following:

  • Museums, zoos and aquariums can open indoor activities at 25% capacity.
  • Gym, fitness centers and yoga and dance studios can run indoors with a capacity of 10%.
  • Movie theaters can open at 25% capacity, with reserved seats that separate groups by at least six feet.
  • Retail and personal care services can serve customers up to 50% capacity.
  • Restaurants can open indoors at 25% capacity but a distance of eight feet between tables must be maintained.
  • Indoor shopping malls can increase capacity by 50%.
  • Schools may reopen for individual instruction for grades 7-12.
  • Members of up to three households can gather indoors in private settings, but individuals must maintain social distance by wearing masks. Those who are fully vaccinated can gather indoors in small numbers without masks or gaps.
