SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego County public health official said a Pacific Beach gym that was ordered to shut down last week has been linked to a COVID-19 community outbreak.
The gym, located at 2949 Garnett Ave., was ordered to close July 23 for violating public health orders, according to a county document.
County Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten said the county discovered the outbreak on Tuesday. Wooten could not offer further details. A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of coronavirus linked to one location.

The county order last week stated that “Gym owners / operators have acknowledged that they are aware of public health orders but will not comply voluntarily.”
The document added, “Despite efforts to educate and enforce state and local laws on this property, the failure of the gym to function safely is an imminent risk to health and safety and an imminent danger to health”.
The county says The Gym may reopen once the fitness activities have been moved outdoors in accordance with state and local guidance, and the county health officer has approved the location to reopen.
According to The Gym’s Instagram account on Tuesday, the gym is preparing its property to offer an outdoor gym.
The news comes when 282 more people tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, with a total of 28,287. Five new deaths were also reported, with a total of 552 deaths.
