Coronavirus: Where’s the next hot spot for COVID-19? Apple stores can predict

Do Apple Store closings predict upcoming COVID-19 outbreaks?

The Wall Street Journal tracked data from hundreds of stores and compared it to coronavirus statistics.

“Apple has always been one of the first retailers to close its doors in areas of the United States just when they see an increase in COVID-19 cases,” WSJ reported.

In fact, Apple has closed stores across the country, specifically in states that have seen massive increases in coronaviruses. For example, Apple closed stores in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina in June just as cases began to escalate in those areas, according to USA Today. Houston saw closings not long after that.

Interestingly, CNN reported on how Apple Stores shows how the country is also reopening.

“Arguably, the retail stores of America’s most valuable company have become a kind of barometer of how the pandemic is affecting different parts of the country, and the cycle of reopening start and stop in various regions.”
