Coronavirus Updates: Crowds Head To NJ Beaches, 1 County See Cases Increase During Third Week, Restaurants Get Caught With Excess Food. What you need to know (July 4, 2020)

Thousands of people flocked to Jersey Shore beaches and amusement parks for the weekend of July 4, just after Governor Phil Murphy increased the limit of people allowed in outdoor gatherings from 250 to 500.

Still, Murphy called on residents to continue using face covers and social distance. COVID-19 tweeted “it doesn’t take off on holiday weekends.”

The warning came after Murphy gave the green light to many of the state’s businesses, including casinos, bowling alleys, attractions, and water parks, to reopen with current social distancing guidelines.

Despite the large crowds, the weekend was not a celebration for everyone, especially restaurant owners in the state who say they spent money on food in anticipation of dinner indoors, which the governor abruptly postponed in early week.

The state reported 58 new deaths from coronavirus and 386 new positive tests on Friday, the continuation of a steady decline in the impact the disease has had on the Garden State.

Here is a summary of the news about coronavirus:
