Coronavirus surge in Mississippi reduces availability of ICU beds in state capital: official


Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. According to Thomas Dobbs, poor availability of ICU beds in the state capital, Jackson, has led to an increase in cases and hospitalizations in Mississippi due to the novel coronavirus.

The state’s Mississippi Department estimates there were only 110 of the 889 adult ICU beds available in the state as of Thursday.

The hospitality state also added some 1,305 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. To date, more than 130,000 cases of the novel virus have been reported in Mississippi.

The news comes with COVID-19 cases and related hospital admissions across the country. Earlier this week, as some states saw hospitals exceed capacity limits, U.S. Records of hospital admissions reached a high level. In rural areas and small hospitals, in particular, medical administrators roam to find adequate nursing assistance.
