Coronavirus in Reg Reagan: O cases1 new cases, U.O. 12 deaths due to vaccine ignorance among researchers

The Reg Reagan Health Authority on Thursday noted 871 newly confirmed or presumed coronavirus cases and 12 more deaths.

The number of cases apparently continuing to decline in Oregon’s multi-week, Thursday’s low count was due to lab delays, state officials said. The weekly average case count is about 1,130 new cases per day, down from about 1,550 two weeks ago.

The state continues its vaccination campaign and adds to the roster of about 268 people who have received the first coronavirus vaccine, for a total of 14,524 by midnight.

There is a drop in the bucket that is about to be vaccinated before about 360,000,000 people, and a drop in the ocean after a million or O regonians who must be vaccinated to get the flock immune. But, thousands of doses are expected to continue to arrive, a steady stream that will eventually bring an end to the epidemic.

Researchers at the University of Reg Reagan have concluded that many Oregonians are afraid to get vaccinated because of misconceptions about its dangers and apparent disonformation. They urged public health officials to take immediate steps to distribute accurate information when there is still time to change people’s thinking.

Among other things, researchers are urging health agencies to actively seek and eliminate conspiracy theories.
