The Oregon Health Authority on Friday announced three Covid-19 deaths and 402 new coronavirus cases as the cases continue their rollercoaster journey this week.
The latest figures come as state leaders released the latest COVID-19 forecast, warning that while transmission from the peak of winter has already declined, the state is not yet out of the woods, as the types of disease could continue to spread. The health leader said on Friday that if reg regonian people do not continue to wear masks and maintain social distance, this concern could increase.
“As vaccine access gradually expands across the state, estimates on the spread of the virus emphasize the importance of continuing to practice preventive measures that may slow the spread of the disease,” a state statement said.
If transmission continues through the documented fertility rate through most of February, the state estimates that the average number of daily cases starting next week will be 170. An increase in transmission due to variable or relaxed safeguards can result in 265 identified cases a day.
But modeling does not seem to align with current reality. As of Friday, about 300 cases were reported in a single day in the state last week.
