Coronavirus cases related to Lansing Veterinary Clinic, many exposed

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – At least three people who were at the Riverfront Animal Hospital in Lansing from June 23 to July 2 tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The health department advises people who were at the Lansing Veterinary Clinic at that time to monitor for symptoms of respiratory illness and possibly seek evidence.

People with symptoms, which can develop up to 14 days after exposure, should seek immediate evidence of COVID-19 and isolate themselves while awaiting results. People without symptoms can request a test if they wish. Asymptomatic infections occur and can be contagious. COVID-19 symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, and fever.

Riverfront Animal Hospital is now a known public display site for COVID-19. Everyone who entered the veterinary clinic from June 23 to July 2 should check themselves daily for symptoms, “said Linda S. Vail, Ingham County Health Officer.” I highly recommend everyone in our community that wear a mask and stay 6 feet away from others. We will likely continue to see public exhibitions like this. Every time you are in public, there is that potential. “

Contact monitoring is ongoing and the health department suspects additional cases. Riverfront Animal Hospital is currently closed and will remain closed pending further investigation.

There are many options available for testing for coronaviruses in the community. People can contact their primary care physician or visit a test site at no cost: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirustest

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, people should stay 6 feet away from others, wear a mask or face covering, wash their hands, and stay home if they are sick.
