Coronavirus: 48 new cases in Onondaga County, biggest one-day jump since May


SYRACUS, NY – Onandoga County has reported 48 new cases of coronavirus since Tuesday, the highest one-day case since May 25, county health officials said. County officials said the increase was mainly due to a cluster of Syracuse University cases.

The university today reported 20 new coronavirus cases among students, the largest number reported in a single day this semester. University officials have reported an increase in participation in last week’s Camp F-Campus gatherings, including a party on Walnut Avenue.

For Ond Nondaga County, the total number of cases since March is now 4,382. In recent weeks, the county has reported about 15 to 20 new cases a day, and rarely more than 30, said county spokesman Justin Sail. The last time there were more than 48 was on May 25, when there were 62, county spokesman Justin Sail said.

There have been 209 active cases in 34 counties since Tuesday. Fourteen previously infected patients had recovered from the virus and the previous day they had been released from solitude.

Today 31 of the 48 new cases have been blamed for spreading the community; 10 in previously infected households; Both were convicted of traveling to the area; And five are still being investigated.

No new deaths have been reported from Kovid-19 in Onandaga County since Sept. 27. A total of 207 county residents have died from the virus.

There are 17 patients of Kovid-19 in local hospitals today. County officials said no one was in critical condition.

Of all coronavirus test results conducted in On Nondaga County during the past week, 1% were positive, according to the state health department.
