A woman has died and a man is on life support after an unmasked social gathering that infected 14 family members with the coronavirus last month.
Event host Tony Green now says the aftermath was “a harsh lesson from the reality of Covid-19,” having previously doubted the threat posed by the virus.
“I admit that I voted for Donald Trump in 2016. I admit traveling deep into the Covid-19 conspiracy trap,” Green wrote in a column about Dallas Voice. “I participated in all the defiant behavior of Trump’s most radical and rowdy cult supporters.”

He added: “I thought the virus was a hoax. He believed that the mainstream media and Democrats used it to create panic, collapse the economy and destroy Trump’s chances of being reelected. “
“First I call myself, but now this is personal and I fell on the sword,” wrote Mr. Green. “And I promise you that if we continue to be more concerned with the interruption of our lives than with stopping this virus, no American will be saved.”
Mr. Green and his partner did not wear masks, and neither did their parents, during the June 13 party.
“We felt that the worst was behind the country because everything was easy, things were reopening and none of us experienced any symptoms,” he wrote.
They woke up feeling sick the next day, before their parents got sick two days later.
Green was admitted to the hospital on June 24 along with his father-in-law, who received life support, and the mother of his father-in-law, who died with Covid-19 on July 2, NBC News reported.
“I can’t help but feel responsible to convince our families that it was safe to have a reunion,” added Green. “There are many things that I would have done differently.”
Green later created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the family, but has since been removed amid criticism.
