Cops remove 300 people from ‘pop-up’ party at NJ home

UPDATE: Costs possible after NJ ‘pop-up’ house party that attracted 300 to neighbors

Police from two counties dispersed about 300 people from a “pop-up” party on Sunday that was promoted via social media and hosted in a residential neighborhood of Howell, authorities said.

City officers called for help from police in Wall, Brick, Jackson and Freehold along with state troopers and sheriff’s officers from counties in Monmouth and Ocean to break up the mass rally on Wilson Drive near Ramtown.

“Most of those present were satisfied. Others are doubtful and direct their anger at the host who issued the permit, “police said in a statement shortly after 7 p.m.

“PRIVATE LOCATION IN CENTRAL JERSEY … Advance Tixs … Females $ 30.00 Male $ 40.00,” an Instagram post reading the event. The post mentioned a DJ and pool party as part of the festivities. The online floor called the party the ‘Real Big Drip 5.’

Only residents were allowed on the street because officers were working to remove partygoers. Police said more details will be released later.

Last month, police charged three people with violating Gov.’s coronavirus. Phil Murphy, with the exception of large gatherings after officers broke up a party with at least 700 attendees in Jackson.

Outdoor meetings can have up to 500 participants while maintaining social distance from early July.

Murphy set strict limits at indoor meetings last week after the state saw increasing numbers of young people testing positive for the disease. The governor pointed to the Jackson men’s party, in part, as an example of why he moved to restrict events inside.

“We can not be clearer that indoor meetings – especially large, crowded ones, where social distance is not practiced and face masks are not worn – are not safe,” Murphy said last week. “To be clear, these tightening hairstyles parties at 25 people – period.”
