ControlThe second expansion is expected to be released soon, and the game will get one Ultimate Edition to celebrate. The Ultimate Edition will come with all the updates and content for the game so far, including both expansions, and it will also be sold on Steam, a first for this game. But it will also include a bonus.
Who buys Master Ultimate Edition will get a free upgrade to the next-gen version of the game when it comes out later this year. According to the Control website, the free copy of the game will be a “digital upgrade” for the next gen version for players purchasing the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Players who already have the original version of the game will not be eligible for the free upgrade.
This is important because of the release date of each version of the game, shown below:
- August 27 Steam
- September 10 Epic Game Store, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (digital)
- End of 2020 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (physical edition)
- End of 2020 PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (digital)
- Launch 2021 PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (Physically)
Anyone who wants to play the game on the latest consoles, but would not mind starting the current generation release on September 10th, can pick up the game knowing that they will get the upgrade as well. We’ve reached out to Remedy and 505 Games to ask if players can only move from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X, or if the upgrade is available on consoles if you only have a PlayStation 4 and will choose a Xbox Series X on, and we’ll update the post when we hear back.
The Ultimate Edition comes with the full base game; Controlthe first expansion, The Foundation; de Alan Wake-themed second extension, AWE; such as the endgame mode The Expeditions, Photo Mode, and all other content updates that have been released since the game’s launch in August 2019.
