Confusion reigns as states rebound coronavirus reopens amid surge

As government officials try to handle an almost unprecedented pandemic event that has killed more than 125,000 Americans, citizens now face health orders that seem to change from day to day, as cases increase in many places in the US. Concerning officials tasked with keeping their constituents safe.

Plans for a steady and gradual reopening amid the coronavirus have been effectively scrambled in many states.

Instead, those efforts have been suspended in places like Texas and Arizona, while other states, including California and Oregon, have demanded to cover their faces in public. Meanwhile, many local governments are taking action into their own hands with restrictions like mask requirements, and others are resisting their states’ health measures.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, amid a surge in cases in his state, took steps to reduce the capacity of bars and ban alcohol sales, describing “the very fast and very dangerous turnaround” that the virus had taken in your state. Texas was one of the first states to start reopening. Now he is one of many in the south and west to see cases rebounding in recent weeks.

That led to a commitment of federal resources by Vice President Pence, as federal officials announced that funding for the test sites will be extended for 14 days.

And in Arizona, Governor Doug Ducey ordered the closure of bars, gyms, movie theaters, nightclubs, and water parks across the state for 30 days to combat an increase in coronavirus cases. Ducey said his state was “going in the wrong direction” when he again imposed strict limits on the state’s economy.

In Oregon, Gov. Kate Brown announced that citizens are now required to wear face shields within public interior spaces, citing troubling numbers about the hospital’s capacity in her state.

“The Oregon Health Authority model shows that if we don’t take more steps to reduce the spread of the disease, our hospitals could be overwhelmed by new cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations in a matter of weeks,” said the Democratic governor. you don’t want to have to close businesses again like other states do now. If you want your local stores and restaurants to stay open, then cover your face when you go out to the public. “

California Governor Gavin Newsom also took a similar step to order the masks, only to quickly face the backlash as various local governments and police departments said they would not enforce the order. It has also begun reinstating an order to stay home in at least one county.

Other states that pause or reverse their reopens include Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Washington, and New York.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, along with his counterparts in New Jersey and Connecticut, released an updated list of travel notices Tuesday that includes 16 states from which people are required to be quarantined for 14 days if they travel to the three-state area.

“As an increasing number of states across the country grapple with significant community spread, New York is taking steps to maintain the precarious security of its gradual and data-based reopening,” Cuomo said in a statement.

In New Jersey, indoor dining, which was scheduled to resume on July 2, was postponed indefinitely. Maine postponed indoor bar service indefinitely as well. Florida ordered nightclubs and bars to suspend alcohol sales. North Carolina also requires covering your face.

All of this has contributed to exhaustion among Americans, who want to see a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the pandemic, but are also concerned about the health risks to themselves and their families posed by the new coronavirus.

Blockages were originally supposed to last a few weeks, only until the hospital’s capacity could be increased. Then they spread out with little end in sight. They were then lifted at various speeds in various states, and are now being recovered in some locations with increasing cases threatening the hospital’s capacity.

Protests against coronavirus blockades were widely declared wrong and dangerous. Later, even the largest protests against police brutality and racism were widely encouraged by government officials.

The United States government, in the early stages of the pandemic, actively discouraged people from buying and wearing masks. Then, as evidence of asymptomatic spread emerged, masks were recommended for people without symptoms of coronavirus.

Now, some states and localities require masks indoors and in public places outdoors where social distancing is not easy.

One of those locations is Jacksonville, Florida, which was chosen as the new site for the Republican National Convention later this summer expressly because it had lighter coronavirus restrictions than North Carolina, where the convention was first scheduled.

Bethany Mandel, editor of Ricochet and podcaster, addressed this week some of the confusion many feel as a result of the government lash as officials try to understand the coronavirus and what are the best ways to protect people from the pandemic, which has killed over 125,000 Americans.

“Do you want people to wear masks after weeks of telling them not to? Say:” We think this helps. Honestly, we’re not sure, but the evidence points to it helping. “No, ‘You’re a selfish idiot of yours, don’t do this we suddenly decided will save us, but we avoided it 2 months ago,'” he tweeted. “A LITTLE HUMILITY WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY WRONG WITH EVERYTHING. THAT’S WHAT I ASK FOR.”

But in a Senate hearing on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been the face of the federal government’s coronavirus response, warned that the spread of coronavirus is increasing in the United States and that while the country is currently watching around 40,000 new cases of coronavirus per day. , could soon face around 100,000 cases per day.

“I am very concerned,” he said.

Fauci has previously emphasized that following public health measures such as wearing a mask will allow governments to lift coronavirus restrictions faster by reducing the rate of virus spread.
