Conference will not revisit the proposal of the football season

COLUMBUS – The Big Ten’s decision is final, and it will not be considered.

Just in case there was any longer doubt about whether teams like Ohio State could find a fall to play this fall, Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren revealed more details behind the conference chairmen’s decision and reaffirmed that there will be no mulligan on the verdict.

Heisman Trophy favorite Justin Fields had filed a petition calling for the Big Ten to reconsider, and family organizations representing Ohio State and several other conference institutions had requested additional insight and transparency about the details that led to the historic canceling the tradition of the fake scheme last week. Warren honored that request with a letter on Wednesday night, although he has not yet scheduled any kind of press conference with media about the league.

“I am writing on this occasion to share additional information with you about the Big Ten Conference’s decision to postpone the 2020-21 bankruptcy season,” Warren wrote in a message posted on the league’s website. “We deeply understand and appreciate what sports mean to our student-athletes, their families, our coaches and our fans. The vote by the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP / C) was overwhelming in support of the postponement of falls and will not be re-examined. The decision was detailed and deliberative, and based on sound feedback, guidance and advice from medical experts.

“Despite the decision to suspend bankruptcy sports, we will continue our work to find a way forward that creates a healthy and safe environment for all Big Ten student-athletes to participate in the sports they love. in a way that helps prevent the spread of COVID -19 and protects both student-athletes and the surrounding communities. ”

The Big Ten is yet to formulate an exact plan for what will come next, and Ohio State is actively involved in that process by helping make a proposal for a winter / spring season that could potentially begin in January. Details for this have not been finalized, but several sources have confirmed to Lettermen Row that it has received winter format treatment if it can be done safely.

Lettermen Row will have more on this development story as it becomes available. Watch for updates here and on the Lettermen Row YouTube channel.
