Conclusions of Clemson’s new fall calendar

The ACC launched a new programming model for the 2020 soccer season on Wednesday.

The quick facts: No dates have been set for the games yet. The season begins the week of September 7 (week after Labor Day). Clemson added games against Miami, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech and lost clashes with Louisville and NC State (and Akron and The Citadel).

Start: BC, Miami, Pitt, ‘Cuse, UVA

Visitor: FSU, ND, GT, Wake, VT

The 11 games (10 conferences, including Notre Dame, plus South Carolina) will be played for at least 13 weeks and each team will have two open dates. Notre Dame is eligible to compete in the ACC Championship, which will be on December 12 or 19 in Charlotte.

Takeaway:

– Supports ACC for being the first Power 5 conference to present such a model. The SEC is expected to implement a similar model next week.

– Clemson’s schedule became more difficult. Miami (home) and VT (away) present a greater challenge than local contests with State and Louisville.

In terms of travel, Clemson travels to Tallahassee, Atlanta, Blacksburg, Winston-Salem, and South Bend.

– I wonder if Clemson at Notre Dame will continue to happen later in the season. I’ve seen a lot of talk about Clemson’s “rivalry” with Notre Dame stepping up. Didn’t Clemson just beat the Irish 30-3 a year and a half ago?

– ACC made sure to include this clause in yesterday’s announcement: “All television revenue for the 2020 season, including the NBC-broadcast Notre Dame home games, will be shared equally by the 15 institutions.”

I checked in with Tim Bourret, who told me he thinks it will be a laundering in terms of income for ACC and Notre Dame in the end. Under the standard agreement, Notre Dame does not make money from ACC road games. Now Notre Dame will get a share of ACC TV’s revenue with ABC and ESPN.

Notre Dame generates $ 15 million from NBC and is guaranteed $ 3.18 from CFP, regardless of whether you’re playing in the semifinal or not. Last year, it generated $ 6.8 thousand from the ACC (not related to soccer).

Per Bourret: “The question is whether teams pay ACC some money for the fees they receive for license fees. If ND has to give ACC money for that football, then other schools in the league will earn more.” .

It will convey clarity about financial logistics if I succeed.

– According to Clemson, additional information on the stadium’s capacity and other operational details on parking and ticket sales will be communicated in the coming weeks. Clemson begins fall camp next Wednesday, August 5.

– Updated ACC Championship odds:

Clemson -550

Notre Dame +700

Miami +1000

UNC +1400

FSU / VT +2000

Louisville +3000
