READING, Pa. – A ride through the new Pennsylvania COVID-19 Early Warning Monitoring System Control Panel can help you and your family more closely monitor case-by-county case numbers during the seven-year periods days, including information about hospital patients and ventilator use.
“This is not over, and an early warning system can help Berks County understand that we are going in the wrong direction in several numbers, although it is slightly above the level,” said County Commissioner Christian Leinbach.
Cases are on the rise in certain parts of the state, and some counties are re-evaluating their approaches, even within the less restrictive green reopening phase.
“There are only two areas that have shown a slight decrease,” said Leinbach. “What I learned from the board is that it is doing its job. It is saying, ‘Look, there is an early warning. You must keep an eye on these areas that are working.’
Berks County is also in the process of establishing a task force to help gather more data and information about the virus.
“With the help of the Berks County Medical Society to get regular contributions, that’s in the works right now,” said Leinbach. “And this is the kind of thing we are going to ask them: ‘What do we need to do locally?'”
County officials continue to call for caution and the continued use of masks, social distancing, and hand washing.
“We need to understand: we are not out of the woods,” said Leinbach. “There is no vaccine. There is no effective long-term treatment. We need to be smart.”
