When was the last time we reported Comey’s rule, the upcoming Showtime miniseries based on the former FBI Director James Comeybest-selling book, there was controversy about its release date. Writer / director Billy Ray He sent a passionate email to his cast members insisting that the show should air before Election Day 2020. Now, it looks like he’s gotten his wish, since Comey’s rule it now has an official release date before Election Day and a first teaser.
Jeff Daniels plays Comey, who seems to be a man of integrity increasingly concerned. Brendan Gleeson He plays President Donald Trump, and while the trailer only gives us glimpses and snapshots of Gleeson’s work, his voice and physical presence feel precisely commanding. The rest of the star-studded cast includes people like Holly hunter, Scoot McNairy, Jonathan Banks, Amy Seimetz, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Brian d’Arcy James, TR Knight, Joe Lo Truglio, and many more.

From a purely artistic point of view, I am not entirely sure that we get the best pieces of political cinema when they are produced so close to what is actually happening (see: Oliver Stone‘s W.) In this case, Trump has not even finished his first term, and we are already fictionalizing his first term. How can we know what it means in a broader context to know what to say about it? Furthermore, the Trump presidency is unprecedented, and Ray’s purpose of making urgent activist cinema is palpable and contagious. The trailer gives me nuances of the 1990s popcorn political thrillers and the teacher of “important people who say bad things quickly” Aaron Sorkin. Plus, All the President’s Men he was only released two years after President Nixon’s resignation. I’ll be watching this, and I imagine Ray hopes that many potential voters will be, too.
