Columbus Zoo: the red panda ‘with a long fluffy striped tail’ has disappeared

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is desperately trying to find a missing red panda that was last seen on Tuesday night.

According to a Facebook post, staff members have been exhaustively searching for the dense vegetation in and around their habitat and throughout the zoo. As a precaution, other animals that live nearby have been moved so that their habitats can also be searched.

“Staff are evaluating images from the den camera and security cameras located throughout the facility, but so far, there have been no sightings or solid evidence of how it disappeared,” the zoo explained.

They said she is a recent mother of two cubs who are still breastfeeding. The care team is prepared to feed the puppies the specialized formula if necessary.

“The Animal Care team believes that it is likely that she is close and that she can return alone, due to her two cubs. Zoo staff are preparing a night watch to monitor the area. “

If you see a small red mammal that weighs about 19 pounds with a long, fluffy tail, call the zoo’s security dispatch number.
