Columbus, Montreal swap Josh Anderson, Max Domi

The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Montreal Canadians have found some common ground, Restricted Free Agent Forward Swap Josh Anderson And Max Domi. Blue Jackets will also get a third round selection of 2020 in the trade. Both players are represented by agents Darren Ferris And a new contract will be needed for 2020-21.

Both Anderson and Domi have had tremendous success in the past for their respective teams, but the scenery needs to change after some recent struggles.

In Anderson’s case, the relationship with the Blue Jackets has been strained for some time, going back to contract negotiations in 2017, which saw him lose all his training camp. It was followed by two successful asons by Tuo, but the 26-year-old managed to score only one goal in 26 games in 2019-20 while struggling with this forward injury.

Canadians are clearly betting that Anderson can turn around and get back the player who scored 27 goals in 2018-19 and looked like one of the best power forwards in the entire league. Elected in the fourth round in 2012, Anderson brings a lacking size (6’3 ″ 220-lbs) to Montreal’s team this season. He is also making a deal that only hit a 8 1.85mm cap and only needs a 1.21mm qualifying offer (although arbitration is eligible).

For Domi, the trade comes just one year after gaining 72 points for Canadians, the third-highest total of franchises in the Cape era. That came after a disappointing, 44-point season in the incredible year 2019-20, however, seeing Dominic landing on the fourth line at the time and never seeming to make the right move in the Montreal lineup.

Also, most importantly, the MM 3.15mm cap hitter is coming out of the contract and will need a 92.9mm qualifying offer fur. Domi expects a significant increase in that number, which Canadians may not have felt comfortable with as they began relocating to other youth centers.

Nick Suzuki And Jasper KotkaniMe Montreal has a future, meaning Domi would either have to play down-six or move to the wing. That’s not the case in Columbus, where he could later advance as the team’s second line center Pierre-Luke Dubois.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the deal is the draft pick, which seems like an asset that Canadians shouldn’t be included in the swap of these two players. Montreal certainly had plenty of capital to spend although they still have ten picks in tonight’s draft, but it’s surprising to see Anderson really worth more than Domi even after basically losing the entire season of injury.
