Colorado in-and-out burgers are associated with 80 coronavirus cases, 25 infections are probable, ‘the health agency says.


At least 80 in-and-out burger workers have tested positive for coronavirus, according to figures released Wednesday by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The outbreak is linked to two restaurants in the Erapoho County and El Paso County chains, both of which opened last month.

Another 25 employees are potentially infected, but have not been tested, according to the agency’s weekly report.

Danny Warnick, vice president of in-and-out operations, said in a statement that employees who tested positively with employees with whom they had close contact were “excluded from the workplace.”

“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our customers and associates. We are committed to doing our part to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus,” Warnick said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our associates and we are hopeful for the speedy recovery of each affected.”

The in-and-out burger is reported to be working with public health agencies and has “confirmed appropriate measures” in response to the current epidemic.

These include limiting staff capacity in the restaurant, minimizing contact with customers, securing dining room reser access for withdrawal orders, ensuring social distance, and providing hand sanitizers everywhere.

Additionally, self-service beverage stations are temporarily closed while contactless payment options are available.

Employees need to wash their hands regularly and disinfect the surface of the restaurant. Health checks and temperature checks are performed before the shift, however, employees who experience illness are advised to stay home in accordance with the in-and-out COVID-19 policy.

As of Thursday, the state of Colorado has reported more than 319,500 cases of coronavirus, according to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 dashboard.

About 4,550 people have died due to complications associated with respiratory disease. Meanwhile, about 17,000 Colorado residents have recovered.

The state government has passed a number of public health and executive orders, encouraging residents to wear protective faces, masks, distances and out of bounds as needed, avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
