In an advanced clip of his address, Powell, who served under former President George W. Bush, says the “values I learned growing up in the South Bronx and serving in uniform are the same values as Joe Biden’s parents in him in Scranton, Pennsylvania. . ”
In the video, he notes that Biden may sympathize with military families because his late son, Beau Biden, served in the Army.

“I support Joe Biden for the presidency of the United States, because these values still define him and we need to restore those values in the White House,” Powell said. “Our country needs a commander who takes care of our troops in the same way he would his own family.”
“For Biden who does not come with doctrine, that comes with the experience he shares with millions of military families, sends his beloved son to war, and prays to God that he might come home safely.”
Powell first said in June that he would vote for Biden.

In the same interview, he said he is “very close to Joe Biden,” with whom he has worked for four decades.

Several more Republicans spoke at the convention Monday, including former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), a Trump critic who said Praying can help the country “do better than what we have seen today.”
