The first time Colin Jost met Scarlett Johansson he came straight out of a romantic comedy.
The now engaged couple introduced themselves when Jost, later in his first year on “Saturday Night Live,” wrote a sketch featuring Johansson, who was hosting the show for the first time.
The sketch was a parody of MTV’s “My Super Sweet Sixteen,” writes Jost, 38, in his new memoir, “A Very Punchable Face.”
“She says she remembers thinking she was ‘cute’ but I know how she looked and that’s not the word she would have used. (‘Shaggy’ would have been more generous. ‘Slovenly’ would have been more accurate), ”he writes.
“I remember that she was beautiful, smart, sweet and intimidatingly sophisticated,” she continues. “And she had a grace and a smile that I had never seen in any other human.”
The Staten Island native only briefly mentions his fiancé in the tome, but says fondly, “I have met someone I love and feel more comfortable with than ever.”
She also saves her final recognition for the “Avengers” actress, writing: “Thanks to Scarlett for being my first reader and for always protecting me from my worst instincts.” Do you remember that Mexican mask that I tried to put in our living room? Thanks for stopping me from doing that. “
Last year, Jost and Johansson, 35, announced their engagement after secretly dating for two years. It will be the third marriage of the actress nominated for an Oscar. She previously married Ryan Reynolds and French advertising executive Romain Duariac, with whom she shares a 5-year-old daughter, Rose.
