Coca-Cola announced plans to discontinue Zico Coconut Water considering other less popular brands.


Coca-Cola Co. Co. 0.37% is closing its Zico Coconut Water brand and considering printing some less-popular versions of Coke and Diet Coke as it will reduce the chances of its products responding to the coronavirus epidemic.

A Coco spokesman said the decision to close Zico was made by the end of the year. He said the company is doing very little to its brands that can be achieved on a large scale.

Products now under review include Diet Coke Fisty Cherry; Coke Life, a low-calorie version of sweet cola from stevia; And regional American soda brands such as Northern Neck Ginger Alley and Delaware Punch, according to someone familiar with the matter.

The beverage company has 500 fully or partially owned brands worldwide and said last month it was aiming to halve the number. The effort is part of a wider restructuring stimulated by the coronavirus crisis, which includes sorting and improved marketing strategies. In July, The Wall Street Journal reported that Coke plans to close its Odwala Juice and Smoothie business.

Coke also plans to halt sales of Hubert’s Lemonade’s retail store, which will limit the brand to shower machines only, the spokesman said. Huberts is replacing the Odwala lemonade at the fountain machines that used to carry it, she said.
