CNN fown over the speech of the Democratic National Conference of Michelle Obama, while making a misleading claim that even the Associated Press felt compelled to control.
CNN bills itself as a network dedicated to ‘facts’ and fact-checking President Trump and members of his administration at every turn. However, a review of the network’s transcripts showed no mention of a misleading moment in the first hour after Obama’s speech.
MICHELLE OBAMA’S DNC SPEECH FACT-CHECKED BY AP ON ‘DISTURBED’ IMMIGRATION TALKING POINT
“Michelle Obama on Monday assaulted President Donald Trump on Monday for migrating her parents’ children and throwing them in cages, to be taken up on a frequent and corrupt point that was widely made by Democrats,” the AP reported. “What she did not say is that the same ‘cages’ were built and used in her husband’s administration, for the same purpose of keeping temporary migrant children.”
CNN, which has occasionally been slammed in Trump’s comments for immediately pushing back on false statements, had an hour to point out the misleading statement, but instead took the time to breathe without compliment to Obama.
Wolf Blitzer called the pre-taped 18-minute speech a “truly extraordinary moment in American political history,” and Jake Tapper made viewers aware of his admiration for Obama right after her remarks.

“Before I get any of the content, we just have to recognize that the former first lady is one of the most effective speakers in American politics today,” Tapper said.
Dana Bash then praised Obama for going “for the jugular” on Trump by using rhetoric that could hurt his feelings.
‘She knew where she hit him where it hurts. Talk about the fact that he lost the national popular vote with almost 3 million votes. “We know this is something that the president is doing just as well,” said Bash. “She didn’t just go after him, but she went after him in a way she knew she would become him.”
‘Yes. I mean, you could really hear the frustration in her voice, you could see it in her face, and I think that’s what made this so powerful, ‘CNN political correspondent Abby Phillips finally concluded.
News analyst Media Research Center Nicholas Fondacaro wrote that CNN personalities “glorified Obama’s bleak vision of America because that was the story they had been feeding their viewers for years,” and they should capitalize on the election programming strategy.
But the fuss about Obama began just as Anderson Cooper curated the love party.
“This was not a political speech. This was a moral speech, a speech from the point of view of a mother, of a concerned citizen, and it felt that way, “said CNN’s senior political commentator David Axelrod.” She speaks to a moral authority that few in politics can call. “

CNN reporter Nia-Malika Henderson added at the time, “She is also this kind of pop culture figure who also kind of comes as your favorite neighbor,” before colleague Gloria Borger insisted that viewers’ could see and hear the sadness in her voice. ”
CNN chief national correspondent John King said the Biden campaign would be “idiots” if Obama’s speech was not “turned into an advertisement in minutes.” CNN’s Van Jones stood by and gave absolutely no opposite view of the speech, saying he was “blown away” by Obama.
‘It was an extraordinary speech. I mean, she’s beautiful. I mean, it was so beautiful. And you know, they not only put the president down, they tried to take over the country. They talk like a lot of moms in this country. You know, the heartbeat was there, the hope was there, ”Jones said. “That you see one of the most effective communicators in American life putting it all on the table.”
CNN experts Andrew Yang and Jennifer Granholm also praised Obama before the Liberal Network finally turned to political commentator Scott Jennings, who was widely persuaded to serve as the Conservative voice. But instead of finding a fault with Obama’s speech, he essentially said that it is so astonishing that it will look bidding in comparison.

‘She’s extremely compelling. The big problem for Michelle Obama as with her is that she will survive Joe Biden by like a million candles, but it is nevertheless that you measure bright lights, because there is no way he will get anywhere near her. . She’s a real talent, Democrats like her, they love her, and they’re really enthusiastic about her, ”Jennings said.
CNN picked up on its post-speech analysis and threw coverage to opinion hosts Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon without ever acknowledging Obama’s misleading claim.
