She and her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash) make matching games for their teachers and then give new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. Along the way, Cher realizes that she has feelings for her former stepbrother, Josh (Paul Rudd).

A Hollywood Producer’s Closet Inspired Cher, Says Amy Heckerling
Have you always dreamed of having a wardrobe like Cher’s? It turns out that her computerized closet has been around for years.
In a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair about the costume design for the movie, Heckerling spoke about the inspiration behind Cher’s virtual wardrobe. She explained that she had the idea of a producer who had something similar in her house years before.

“A producer in Hollywood had very wonderful clothes, but I felt like you always took the same out of your closet because you really don’t see everything,” he said. “Then he thought, ‘Why not have a device like the one they have in dry cleaners, that spins their clothes? So he got someone to do it for him. “
Seeing the high-tech wardrobe, Heckerling decided to use it in a future project.
“I saw it and I thought, ‘OMG, someday I’m going to use this on something,'” he said.
That led to Cher’s closet with the rotate feature and a computer program that created matching outfits for her.

In CluelessSilverstone wore approximately 60 costumes like Cher. The costume department worked overtime to create the look of her character and it shows. They are still some of the most recognizable outfits that have been worn on screen.
When filming wrapped in Clueless, the lead actress had to save some memories from the set. Silverstone kept a pair of Cher’s Mary Cher shoes. But in 2020, she disclosed that she had given them away along with some other things she kept from the movie. Okay, now we really are totally upset.
