Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins to play Friday night after discussing postponement

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The game for the Indians and twins begins Friday night at Target Field.

Earlier in the day, the two teams and MLB discussed possibly postponing Friday’s start at 8:10 pm because two St. Louis Cardinals players tested positive for the coronavirus. The Cardinals played the Twins at Target Field on Wednesday, the day before the Indians arrived to play a four-game series in Minneapolis.

The Cardinals announced Friday morning that the two players tested positive Wednesday while the team was in Minneapolis.

On Friday, just after 4:30 pm ET, the Indians and the twins were cleared to play the game. The Indians will send Mike Clevinger to the mound to face Randy Dobnak from Minnesota.

The Indians were behind in their pregame preparation because they did not leave the hotel until they knew they were definitely going to play. The visiting changing room also had to be disinfected.

Shane Bieber and James Karinchak threw the Indians to a 2-0 victory in the first game of the series on Thursday night. Bieber threw eight scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts and Karinchak threw the ninth for his first save.

This will be Clevinger’s second start to the season.
