Cleveland Indians meet to discuss possible postponement of Friday’s game against the Twins

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Indians have gathered to discuss the possible postponement of Friday’s game against the Twins at Target Field due to a threat of coronavirus.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that two of their players tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday before playing against the Twins at Target Field. The Indians replaced the Cardinals in Target Field’s visiting locker room for the game Thursday night.

The Cardinals, who traveled to Milwaukee after Minneapolis, postponed and rescheduled their Friday night game against the Brewers as a double game for Sunday.

MLB issued this statement: “The game scheduled for today between the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park has been rescheduled as part of a traditional double game on Sunday, August 2 at 1:10 pm (CT). Reprogramming as a result of two positive COVID-19 tests at the Cardinals organization are consistent with protocols to allow enough time for additional tests and contact tracing. “

Indian officials have been discussing the matter with each other, the Twins and MLB since the MLB announcement. It is not yet clear if his game will be postponed.

As for the traveling portion of the Indians that needs to undergo further testing today, they were already scheduled to undergo their normal round of testing on Friday.

This comes in the wake of an outbreak in the Miami Marlins on Sunday that caused a pause in the Marlins’ season until next week. At least 18 players tested positive for the Marlins after last weekend’s series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The Phillies have also been closed since last weekend’s series against the Marlins. On Thursday they had a positive test of attendance at the coach and the clubhouse.
