Civilization 6 gets another free update in August

If one turn in the next fuses and you become a strategy zombie – no not the Red Death zombie mode – it’s time to shake up your game. Firaxis Games brings another free update to Civilization VI that will help you put some surprises back into your 4x. A new Tech and Civics Shuffle Mode and other changes are coming at the end of August.

In a new video, Firaxis discusses some of the highlights that will come in the free update at the end of this month. One biggie is the Natural Wonder Picker with which you can customize which miracles may appear during your match. They are still random, but you can master the available set if there are a few elusive options that you just never encountered while playing with the full set.

Another great addition is the option to hide and randomize tech trees. Lead designer Anton Strenger explains that the new option is based on an old “blind research” mode of 4x yore games. ‘This made it easier because you don’t have to plan so much ahead. But also, you could not plan so much ahead, ”Strenger explained.

Tech and Civics Shuffle Mode hides the position of each piece of tech on the tree and also randomizes the pros and cons. The tree will also be the same for each player in the game. It absolutely sounds like a way to shake up a strategic rut by forcing you to adapt to strange situations.

Firaxis says the full patch notes with all the changes and tweaks will be released when the update launches later this month.

This update is free for all Civ 6 players, even those who have not purchased in the recent DLC-packed Frontier Pass. The update will arrive on Thursday, August 27th.
