City officials concerned about increasing COVID-19 cases in Grosse Pointe Park

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Officials in Grosse Pointe Park expressed concern over the growing cases of COVID-19 in the city.

Update June 28, 2020: Michigan coronavirus cases (COVID-19) up to 63,261, death toll now at 5,912

“Everyone was feeling good about the situation,” said city councilwoman Aimée Fluitt. “And then on Wednesday, we had two more cases.”

A new wave of COVID-19 has appeared and the Wayne County Health Department said there are a few dozen recent cases running through the Grosse Pointe communities.

“Then on Friday yesterday, we had 12 Market Park cases, so there was a 25% increase in our cases in a single day,” Fluitt said. “So in the last four days we have gone from 48 cases to 68 cases.”

Fortunately, there are no fatalities, but Fluitt said he heard rumors spreading across the area of a massive party with a college student who was unknowingly infected with the virus.

“We have many parents talking to each other. We have a lot of people talking on Facebook and speculating, “said Fluitt. “That seems to be the prevailing theory, but that has not been confirmed as far as I know.”

And there is a possibility that the same person has also gone to a popular restaurant, possibly leaving another trace of the virus and possibly infecting others.

Fluitt believes there may be more bad news for the state as more people defraud its guards when it comes to taking precautions to contract the virus.

“I think we are going to have to close again,” Fluitt said. “That’s just my opinion, but I think that’s what we’re heading for.”

Anyone who thinks they might have coronaviruses should follow CDC guidelines. Michigan.gov have a list of resources available for those concerned about COVID-19.
