After the big AMC and Regal circuits, Cinemark has reversed its mask mask policy for guests as the chain plans to reopen since the closure of COVID-19.
“For the safety of our guests, employees, and communities, Cinemark will require that masks be worn in all of our theaters. You can remove the masks when eating and drinking inside the auditorium, ”an updated Cinemark standard security policy is read on the chain’s website.
The updated protocol will be applicable to most moviegoers when the circuit restarts its gradual reopening on July 24.
Initially, Cinemark had a policy that it would only require the use of masks by guests in communities that order it, and in those areas where restrictions had been eased, the chain would encourage the use of masks.

“The health and safety of our employees, guests, and communities is a top priority. While closely monitoring the status of COVID-19, Cinemark has chosen to implement a national policy that requires all of our guests to wear face masks while in our theaters. If a guest forgets their mask, Cinemark will have a select number available in all of our theaters, ”a Cinemark representative tells Deadline.
While five Cinemark multiplexes remain open in the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX area, the chain rescheduled its reopening plans this morning, as many large exhibitors have done recently, as studios delayed their major theatrical releases such as Deranged, Gallery of Broken Hearts, Tenet, Mulan etc. because of the cases of coronavirus on the rise throughout the country.
Big circuits’ flexible policy on wearing masks by guests came to a frenzy two weeks ago when AMC CEO Adam Aron said in an interview with Variety He would not impose masks in those places where restrictions had been eased because he did not want the chain to “get into political controversy.” There was an uproar from online viewers about this, and the next day, AMC and Regal changed their policy for all their guests across the country to wear masks.
