Irinej, who was 90 years old, on November 1, Metropolitan Amphilohij Radovi, led an open-cass skate funeral service for the church’s top cleric in Montenegro.
The body of Amphilohisa was shown in an open casket during a service before interfering with a church script in Podgorica, Montenegro.
A large crowd stood in front of the crowded church, with only a few people present inside the building wearing facial insignia. The video of the service showed the mourners kissing on the hands and forehead of the deceased cleric, as is the custom.
On Friday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vusic confirmed Irinage’s death, posting a photo of him on Instagram with a photograph: “I’m proud to know you. People like you never leave.”
An earlier statement from the Serbian Orthodox Church said he was “in a state of shock” as his condition worsened on Thursday.
Born on August 27, 1930, Miroslav Gavirolovic, Irenaeus was enthroned in 2010 as the spiritual leader of the Eastern Rhododendron Serbs.
Serbia’s health ministry reported on Thursday that 104,097 people had been infected with the coronavirus in the country since the onset of the epidemic, with 1,110 people dying.
